About Melrose

Melrose Residential is a five-bed residential treatment home for adults living with serious mental illness in Portland, Oregon. We are a small household with a steady routine, and a team that takes the time to know each resident. We are pending licensure with the Oregon Health Authority and plan to open in Summer of 2027.

What you'll do

  • Stay awake and alert for the entire overnight shift.
  • Check on residents according to our procedures, and keep the home secure.
  • Respond calmly to any needs or emergencies overnight, and follow the chain of contact.
  • Keep the home clean and safe.
  • Observe how residents are doing and record it clearly in shift notes.
  • Treat each resident's rights and dignity as part of every task.
  • Work as part of a small team and share information at shift change.
  • Go with residents on community outings, and drive the company vehicle when needed.

Night time duties

  • Complete required rounds and checks as our policy sets them.
  • Write shift notes and document any incidents.
  • Review the medication log, restock supplies, and count inventory.
  • Prepare meals for the next day from the posted menu, and set up the kitchen for the morning shift.
  • Help prepare menus and the meal schedule ahead of time with the Administrator, following our policy.
  • Complete required trainings and refresher modules, paid.
  • Do light cleaning and laundry, keeping noise away from the bedrooms.

What we're looking for

  • Kindness, patience, and reliability.
  • At least 18 years old, and able to work legally in the United States.
  • Able to pass an approved Oregon criminal background check.
  • Able to perform the duties of the job, including emergency procedures, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Reliable transportation to the home.
  • A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets our insurance requirements. You'll be comfortable driving residents on community outings in a company vehicle, when we have one.
  • Experience helping others is welcome but not required. We train you.
  • Commitment to our CARES standards.
  • Comfortable working independently overnight, and reliable at keeping the home safe.

Helpful to have: CPR/First Aid, Food Handler card, medication administration training, Mental Health First Aid, experience in residential, mental health, or caregiving settings. Required trainings, including HCBS, are completed before you start.

Pay and schedule

  • $22 per hour for the overnight shift.
  • You are paid for all 8 hours of every shift, including a paid 30 minute meal break taken at the home.
  • You're welcome to eat from the home's kitchen and refrigerator, or bring your own meal.
  • Paid training before we open. You are paid your regular hourly rate for all required training hours.
  • We pay for the certifications this job requires. After you're hired, we'll also pay for healthcare-related certifications and licenses you'd like to earn, up to $500 per year. This does not cover classes or degree programs.
  • You may be asked to grow into a shift lead role.
